DID Press: Russian representative to international organizations in Vienna described recent comments by Israel’s ambassador to Austria regarding Iran as “strange and illogical.”

According to TASS, Mikhail Ulyanov told the news program Vesti: “Yesterday, during discussions on Iran, the Israeli ambassador claimed that Iran is violating the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and not fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency. These statements seemed strange coming from the Israeli representative.”
Ulyanov added, “Israel is one of the most active defenders of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, except that it does not apply it to itself and only seeks to enforce it on its neighbors.”
He also noted that reviving talks between the U.S. and Iran is currently impossible and that the consequences of military actions must be clear to all parties. “What we have seen so far from the Americans is not diplomacy but something completely different, which is doomed to fail. You cannot deal with Iran this way,” he said.
Nonetheless, he emphasized that negotiations will take place because Iran needs sanctions relief, which can only come through a compromise with the U.S. over its nuclear program. At the same time, the U.S. also requires concessions from Iran, providing further impetus for talks.
