Taliban Reject US Claim of ‘Wrongful Detentions’
DID Press: Foreign ministry of the Taliban government rejected a recent decision by the United States to place Afghanistan on its list of states accused of wrongful detentions, calling the move regrettable and unrealistic.

In an official statement, the ministry said Afghan authorities have never detained foreign nationals as tools for political pressure or bargaining, stressing that all arrests are conducted in accordance with the country’s applicable laws.
The statement added that no citizen of any country has been detained as a bargaining instrument, noting that in many cases individuals have been released through normal legal procedures after investigations were completed.
The ministry also said the Taliban government had taken positive steps in good faith last year regarding certain cases involving American citizens, describing the actions as evidence of a constructive approach and willingness to resolve issues through diplomacy.
It further referred to ongoing negotiations between Afghanistan and the United States mediated by Qatar, stating that talks have continued at multiple levels and that both sides have made commitments toward confidence-building measures.
The Taliban authorities emphasized that the issue should be addressed through continued dialogue and constructive engagement between the two sides.
The statement concluded by expressing hope that the matter would ultimately be resolved through diplomatic channels and mutual respect.
