War Crimes Allegations Against Prominent Australian Special Forces Officer Reaffirmed
DID Press: A former member of Australia’s special forces has publicly reaffirmed allegations that decorated officer Ben Roberts-Smith committed war crimes during deployments in Afghanistan.

The ex-soldier, identified under the pseudonym “X” in a televised interview, claimed that some actions attributed to Roberts-Smith involved the targeting of civilians and were unrelated to active combat or operational necessity.
He stated that the killing of civilians or detainees can never be justified under any circumstances and violates the core principles governing special operations forces. According to his account, the incidents in question allegedly occurred after direct hostilities had ended, making them inconsistent with lawful combat activity.
The former serviceman also rejected the notion that such conduct is an inevitable part of warfare, arguing that the alleged actions fell outside the legal framework of the laws of armed conflict.
He further expressed support for other military personnel who have provided testimony in the case, describing them as courageous and noting that some have faced psychological pressure and adverse treatment following their disclosures.
