Australia’s Most Decorated Soldier Speaks Out After War Crimes Allegations
DID Press: Ben Roberts-Smith, a former member of Australia’s elite Special Forces and once the country’s most decorated living soldier, has made his first public remarks after facing war crimes allegations, speaking briefly to the media while released on bail.

He is facing five counts of murder related to alleged war crimes involving the killing of unarmed civilians during his deployment in Afghanistan. Roberts-Smith has firmly denied all accusations, stating that he welcomes the opportunity to “clear his name.”
Roberts-Smith claimed that over the past decade, he and his family have been subjected to what he described as a sustained campaign aimed at convincing the Australian public of his alleged misconduct. He also emphasized that he remains proud of his military service in Afghanistan.
The former soldier, once widely celebrated as one of Australia’s most honored military figures, is now awaiting the possibility of a formal trial following the serious allegations. Several Australian soldiers have reportedly testified regarding the alleged crimes.
