Doctors: Mothers Play Vital Role in Improving Vaccination Coverage

DID Press: During World Immunization Week, medical experts emphasize the crucial role of women and mothers in expanding vaccination awareness and coverage worldwide.

The World Health Organization reports that since 1974, vaccines have saved more than 150 million lives globally, underscoring their central role in public health improvement.

According to the report, immunization programs have prevented the spread of over 30 life-threatening diseases, including measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, and polio.

Despite these achievements, equitable access to vaccines remains a major challenge. In 2024 alone, around 20 million children worldwide did not receive essential vaccinations.

Health experts attribute low immunization coverage in some regions to poverty, weak healthcare infrastructure, conflict, and lack of public awareness.

Afghan doctors also stress the importance of raising public awareness and urge families to prioritize vaccination schedules. They highlight that mothers, in particular, play a decisive role in household health decisions and can significantly improve vaccination rates.
