Iran’s Agriculture Minister Arrives in Kabul for Talks With Taliban

DID Press: Iran’s Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh arrived in Kabul on Wednesday, August 12, at the head of an official delegation for meetings with Taliban officials and a visit to an agriculture and livestock exhibition, Iran’s embassy in Kabul said.

The Iranian embassy said on X that Nouri Ghezeljeh’s visit is focused on discussions with Taliban authorities and participation in the agricultural and livestock exhibition.

The visit follows previous consultations between Tehran and Kabul on agricultural cooperation. In May 2025, Nouri Ghezeljeh met with a Taliban deputy agriculture minister in Tehran and expressed Iran’s readiness to provide agricultural technical and engineering services, transfer modern technologies and train Afghan specialists.

During that meeting, he proposed establishing a joint committee in Kabul to coordinate agricultural cooperation. He also said Iran was interested in participating in development projects, improving crop patterns and drafting long-term agreements aimed at improving Afghan farmers’ livelihoods.

The visit comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant challenges in agriculture and food security. Regional cooperation in agricultural technology, production and water management could play a role in strengthening the country’s productive capacity and supporting longer-term food security.
