Nabih Berri Rejects US-Israel “Imposed Agreement” as Unacceptable
DID Press: Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri has firmly rejected a proposed trilateral framework involving Lebanon, Israel, and the United States, saying it will never be approved by parliament as it imposes conditions that undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and serve Israeli interests.

In a statement issued by the Amal Movement, Berri described the proposed arrangement as a “dictated agreement,” arguing that it prioritizes Israel’s demands over Lebanon’s rights and territorial integrity.
According to the reported framework, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon would be conditioned on the disarmament of Hezbollah, a clause widely rejected by Lebanese resistance factions, which argue it violates Lebanon’s right to self-defense.
The statement emphasized that any deal linking withdrawal to disarmament is unacceptable and that Israeli forces must leave unconditionally while fully respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty over all occupied territories, including the Shebaa Farms and Kfar Shuba hills.
Analysts say Berri’s position reflects alignment between the Amal Movement and Hezbollah, presenting a unified domestic front against external pressure to accept the proposed security arrangement.
While U.S. and Israeli officials have described the plan as a step toward regional stability, critics in Lebanon argue it is designed to weaken resistance forces and reshape security arrangements in favor of Israel.
Under the proposed framework, the Lebanese army would assume full responsibility for border security after Israeli withdrawal, while the presence of resistance forces in border areas would be prohibited—a provision opponents say aims to remove Lebanon’s deterrence capability.
The statement comes amid Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis and sustained external pressure. However, observers suggest that the firm stance taken by Berri could strengthen Lebanon’s position in future negotiations and block attempts to impose an unequal agreement.
Berri reiterated that Lebanon’s sovereignty and the role of resistance in regional security arrangements are non-negotiable and cannot be altered under foreign pressure.
