Iraq Detains Afghan Migrants Over Illegal Status, Raising Prison Conditions Concerns

DID Press: Several Afghan migrants in Iraq have reported to media outlets that Afghan nationals working in the country have recently been detained and imprisoned due to lack of legal documentation, amid growing concerns over detention conditions.

According to these migrants, arrests have increased in recent days, with some detainees being held in custody centers under poor conditions and limited access to basic services, including healthcare and essential living facilities.

They emphasized that many of those detained are facing difficult circumstances without adequate support, and called for urgent attention from relevant authorities to address the situation of Afghan migrants in Iraq.

So far, no official statement has been issued by Iraqi authorities regarding the reported detentions.
