Germany to Continue Deporting Afghan Offenders Despite Criticism

DID Press: Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt says the deportation of Afghan asylum seekers with criminal records will continue without retreat, despite growing criticism over human rights concerns.

Dobrindt stated that the government remains “firm” in its policy of removing Afghan offenders, arguing that such individuals pose a threat to Germany’s internal security. Speaking to broadcaster ARD, he said critics must explain whether allowing convicted individuals to remain would make the country safer.

Alexander Dobrindt emphasized that public safety remains the priority, even as rights groups warn against returns to Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

Reports indicate that at least 138 Afghan nationals have been deported from Germany over the past year. Media sources also point to a reported arrangement between Berlin and the Taliban to facilitate more regular deportations.

In return, the Taliban have reportedly been allowed to send two diplomats to Germany, a move seen by some analysts as a sign of limited, pragmatic engagement between the two sides.

Human rights organizations, however, warn that deportees could face serious risks upon return, citing Afghanistan’s fragile security situation and lack of legal protections. Critics argue that such deportations raise significant ethical and legal concerns under current conditions.
