Afghan Migrants Continue to Face Uncertainty at Torkham Crossing

DID Press: Local sources at the Torkham border crossing report that despite an ongoing surge in the return of Afghan migrants from Pakistan, there has been little improvement in border processing, leaving hundreds of families stranded in difficult conditions on both sides of the frontier.

According to eyewitnesses, overcrowding, lack of basic facilities, and slow documentation procedures have caused families—including women, children, and elderly individuals—to wait for hours or even days in harsh conditions.

Many migrants are reportedly spending nights in the open without adequate access to clean water, food, or medical services. Some families also complain about the lack of coordination between Pakistani authorities and Taliban officials, which they say has further delayed border movement.

In recent weeks, pressure on Afghan migrants in Pakistan has increased, with reports of intensified deportations and forced returns. Humanitarian organizations have warned that the situation could develop into a broader humanitarian crisis if conditions at border crossings do not improve.
