UN Warns Afghan Women and Children Face Growing Hunger Crisis

DID Press: United Nations has warned that worsening economic conditions, widespread unemployment, and climate change are intensifying food insecurity in Afghanistan, placing millions of people — especially women and children — at risk of malnutrition.

According to the UN, the overlapping economic and climate crises have significantly depleted supplies of therapeutic food used to treat malnutrition across the country.

The organization said rising food prices and expanding unemployment have left many Afghan families unable to secure sufficient food, increasing humanitarian pressure on vulnerable communities.

Aid agencies have repeatedly warned that women and children remain among the most severely affected groups as Afghanistan continues to face economic instability, drought, and reduced international assistance.

The UN has called for continued humanitarian support to prevent further deterioration of the country’s food security situation.
