DID Press: Nearly 200 former Canadian diplomats have called on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government to impose “broad and decisive” sanctions on Israel over the worsening situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

According to media reports, 190 retired Canadian diplomats signed an open letter warning that without serious international sanctions, Israel would continue to disregard international law and human rights obligations while expanding settlement projects in Palestinian territories.
The letter stated that although Canada recognizes Israel’s security concerns regarding Hezbollah, the large-scale destruction of cities and the rising number of civilian casualties in Lebanon constitute “serious violations of international law.”
The appeal comes amid growing international criticism over Israeli military operations in Gaza Strip and Lebanon in recent weeks. Critics accuse Israel of continuing attacks that have resulted in civilian casualties despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.
