Afghanistan Linked to China via Wakhan Corridor Road Project
DID Press: Taliban-run Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development has announced the completion of initial construction work on the Wakhan road, a strategic route intended to connect Afghanistan with China through the Wakhan Corridor.

The announcement was made during a meeting in Kabul between acting minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor and Chinese Ambassador Zhao Xing.
According to the ministry, Ambassador Zhao welcomed the progress on the project and discussed ongoing and future Chinese cooperation in Afghanistan, particularly in infrastructure and development sectors.
Officials stated that while Afghanistan is already connected by land routes to all neighboring countries, China had remained the only neighbor without a direct overland connection until now. The Wakhan route is presented by the Taliban authorities as a key strategic link to address that gap.
Mansoor said initial construction work has been completed and described the project as a milestone in improving regional connectivity, while noting that remaining construction activities are still ongoing.
Chinese representatives reportedly reiterated Beijing’s commitment to continue development projects in Afghanistan in coordination with local authorities.
