UNICEF, India Launch Emergency Aid for Flood Victims in Afghanistan’s Nuristan

DID Press: UNICEF and India have launched emergency relief efforts for communities affected by devastating floods in Afghanistan’s northeastern Nuristan province, where dozens of people have been killed and more than 100 remain missing.

UNICEF said it has deployed a mobile health clinic in Nuristan to provide emergency medical services, trauma care and first aid to flood survivors.

The agency added that its teams, working with local partners, are on the ground assisting affected communities and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

Separately, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it had delivered a shipment of humanitarian aid, including food supplies and tents, to the Taliban-run National Disaster Management Authority.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi stands with the people of Afghanistan during the ongoing humanitarian emergency.

Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in Parun, the provincial capital of Nuristan, on Monday. According to preliminary figures, at least 23 people were killed, while more than 100 others remain missing.
