Former Kabul Governor: Afghanistan Cannot Escape Crisis Without Policy Shift by Taliban
DID Press: Former Kabul governor Ahmadullah Alizai has warned that Afghanistan’s ongoing political and economic crises cannot be resolved without meaningful policy changes by the current authorities.

In a statement posted on X, Alizai said the country is simultaneously facing political isolation and economic pressure, arguing that no sustainable solution is possible without a broad national consensus.
He stressed the need for trust-building between Afghanistan’s political and social factions, urging the authorities to take “practical, measurable and clear steps” toward enabling national dialogue and inclusive participation.
Alizai added that only such an approach could pave the way for a legitimate and broadly accepted political structure.
The former governor further warned that continued stagnation could erode Afghanistan’s political and economic opportunities and push the country deeper into long-term deadlock, with serious consequences for future generations.
He also called on the international community and regional states to engage constructively at the appropriate time, emphasizing the importance of supporting efforts aimed at improving Afghanistan’s political and economic situation.
According to him, reducing internal divisions and strengthening cooperation among ethnic and political groups remain essential for long-term stability.
