Herat Pharmaceutical Plant Produces 60,000 IV Drips Daily Amid Import Ban

DID Press: Pharmaceutical factories in western Afghanistan have expanded production following restrictions on the import of certain Pakistani medicines, with a major facility in Herat now manufacturing 60,000 intravenous (IV) drips per day.

A pharmaceutical plant located in the Herat industrial park reports producing around 60,000 IV solutions daily after investing more than $3 million in its operations.

The facility manufactures over 40 types of medicines and injectable solutions under standard pharmaceutical guidelines, supplying products across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

According to the company’s management, rising demand for domestically produced medicines has driven expansion in output and enabled the creation of jobs for more than 250 workers.

The head of the company said increased reliance on local pharmaceutical production has strengthened industrial activity in the region.

The Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines also stated that restrictions on certain imported medicines from Pakistan have created new opportunities for domestic manufacturers, contributing to growth in local pharmaceutical production.
