Denmark Contributes Over $5M to Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund

DID Press: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that Denmark has contributed more than $5 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund to support emergency relief operations across the country.

OCHA said on Monday that the new funding will be used to implement urgent humanitarian programs and improve vulnerable families’ access to life-saving assistance.

According to the UN agency, the contribution will help strengthen essential services and sustain aid operations for communities affected by Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.

OCHA warned that the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains fragile, with millions of people still requiring urgent food assistance, healthcare services and livelihood support.

The agency also thanked donor countries for continuing financial assistance and stressed that sustained international funding remains critical for maintaining humanitarian operations in Afghanistan.

According to United Nations estimates, nearly 22 million people in Afghanistan are expected to require humanitarian assistance in 2026, as food insecurity and poverty continue to affect large parts of the country.

The UN previously launched Afghanistan’s humanitarian response plan with a budget of $1.71 billion, describing the country as one of the world’s largest ongoing humanitarian crises.
