Fazlur Rehman: Pakistan’s Afghanistan Policy Has Failed

DID Press: Fazlur Rehman, leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party, has stated that Pakistan’s decades-long policy toward Afghanistan has failed and has contributed to growing mistrust between the two countries.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Wednesday (May 20), he said Islamabad has alternated between supporting Afghan governments and opposing them, a strategy he described as unsuccessful.

Fazlur Rehman emphasized that issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan should be resolved through political and diplomatic dialogue rather than force or military escalation.

He called for serious engagement to address disputes between Kabul and Islamabad, including trade, border management, refugee issues, and security concerns.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two countries over border clashes, mutual security accusations, and the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
