Saudi Border Security Reshuffle Sees Pakistani Military Role Expanded

DID Press: Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia has reshaped its southern border security architecture by relying increasingly on Pakistani forces, while sidelining Yemeni-affiliated units previously deployed in the region.

According to regional media reports, thousands of Pakistani military personnel have been deployed in recent weeks along the Saudi border with Yemen as part of a broader security realignment strategy.

The Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar reported that alongside the arrival of Pakistani troops, Saudi authorities have removed hundreds of Yemeni fighters who had been stationed in the border provinces of Asir, Najran, and Jizan.

These forces had reportedly served for years in various security and military roles along the kingdom’s southern frontier.

The report further states that recent weeks saw protests at border camps in Al-Abd and Al-Buqa, where Yemeni personnel complained about delayed salaries, unpaid benefits, and deteriorating living conditions.

According to sources, Saudi officials responded firmly to the protests, leading to the dismissal and removal of a large number of Yemeni personnel from operational areas.

Some of the dismissed fighters have reportedly been relocated to Yemeni border regions, while their future cooperation status with Saudi Arabia remains unclear.
