UN Warns Over Possible EU Deportation of Afghan Migrants

DID Press: Richard Bennett expressed serious concern over reports that European Union is hosting Taliban officials to discuss the deportation of Afghan migrants.

Bennett warned that any forced return of Afghan nationals could violate the principle of Non-refoulement, which prohibits sending individuals back to a country where they face a real risk of serious human rights violations.

He noted that the human rights situation in Afghanistan remains deeply concerning, with widespread reports of abuses—particularly against women, human rights defenders, and former government employees.

The remarks come amid growing anxiety over the future of Afghan migrants in European countries and the possibility of their forced return to Afghanistan.
