Afghanistan, Uzbekistan Sign $210M Trade Deals

DID Press: Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have signed trade and investment agreements worth $210 million during a visit by a 100-member Afghan business delegation to Uzbekistan’s Namangan region, officials said.

According to the Taliban-run Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, the delegation — made up of traders, exporters and private sector representatives — held extensive bilateral meetings and business talks with Uzbek counterparts during the visit.

The agreements and commercial memorandums were signed between companies and business leaders from both countries following a series of joint discussions focused on expanding regional trade and economic cooperation.

Afghan commerce officials described the deals as a significant step toward strengthening economic ties between Kabul and Tashkent. They said the agreements could help boost Afghan exports, expand access to regional markets and attract new investment opportunities.

Arian Zelgi Azimi, deputy head of investment at the chamber, said Afghanistan’s private sector is prepared to deepen economic cooperation with regional countries, particularly Uzbekistan, and is seeking to open new routes for trade and transit.

Uzbek officials also emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral economic relations and welcomed broader cooperation in trade, transit, exports and joint investment projects.

Economic analysts say such meetings could play an important role in promoting regional commerce, creating new opportunities for Afghan traders and strengthening Afghanistan’s exports to Central Asian markets.
