18 Killed, 29 Injured in Truck Crash Carrying Returning Migrants from Pakistan

DID Press: At least 18 people have been killed and 29 others injured after a truck carrying returning migrants from Pakistan overturned in the Qarghayi district of Laghman, local officials said.

According to a spokesman for the Taliban-appointed governor in Laghman, the accident occurred in the Sarkhan area of Qarghayi district when a freight truck transporting returning migrants lost control and overturned.

Abdul Malik Niazi said the victims include 10 children and five women. He added that all injured individuals were transferred to the provincial hospital in Jalalabad, with several reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the crash, but an investigation has been launched.

Road accidents in Afghanistan are frequently attributed to speeding, technical failures, and poor road conditions, which continue to contribute to high casualty rates across the country.
