50,000 Tourists Visit Herat Attractions During Eid Holidays

DID Press: Authorities in western Afghanistan’s Herat province say around 50,000 domestic tourists visited historical, cultural, and recreational sites during the Eid al-Fitr holidays, highlighting growing interest in the region’s tourism potential.

Abdul Mateen Aadil said the figure covers the Eid period, during which thousands of visitors from different provinces traveled to Herat to explore its heritage sites and recreational areas.

He added that the province’s well-known historical landmarks attracted large crowds, reinforcing Herat’s position as one of Afghanistan’s key domestic tourism destinations.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson Sayed Masoud Hosseini said special security measures were implemented during Eid, allowing visitors to tour historical sites in a safe environment.

Herat, home to significant landmarks such as its ancient citadel, the Great Mosque, and numerous cultural monuments, remains one of Afghanistan’s most important heritage hubs. Local officials expressed hope that improved infrastructure and continued security would further boost tourism in the future.
