Herat Exports Over 10 Tons of Dairy Products to Türkiye Monthly

DID Press: Officials from Herat’s dairy traders association say the western Afghan province exports more than 10 tons of quroot (dried yogurt) and animal fat to Türkiye every month, with sheep-milk quroot gaining particular popularity due to its high quality.

According to local industry representatives, Herat’s sheep-milk quroot has established a strong presence in Turkish markets and has become one of Afghanistan’s notable dairy export products.

Abdul Rahim Osmani, head of the Herat Dairy Traders Association, said approximately 80 tons of milk are produced and supplied to local markets daily in the province.

He added that around 200 dairy shops currently operate across the city of Herat, while dozens of companies in the industrial park rely on locally produced dairy products for processing and manufacturing.

Officials from Herat’s Chamber of Agricultural and Livestock Production have called for greater support for domestic products, urging manufacturers to use locally sourced dairy ingredients instead of imported raw materials.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Dutch Committee for Afghanistan in western Afghanistan reported progress in dairy collection and processing systems, noting that the sector is gradually transitioning from traditional methods to more standardized and modern production practices.
