US Review of Afghanistan Withdrawal to Be Released Soon, Hegseth Says

DID Press: Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of War, has announced that a comprehensive review of the American military withdrawal from Afghanistan has been completed and will be released in the coming months.

Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of his visit to Paris on Sunday, Hegseth said a thorough assessment had been conducted into the events surrounding the withdrawal.

“This report is on its way. A very detailed review of what happened during the withdrawal from Afghanistan has been completed. We promised at the outset that such an evaluation would be carried out, and this has been a comprehensive and genuine review,” he said.

According to Hegseth, all interviews and examinations of classified documents related to the withdrawal have been finalized. The final report is expected to be published later this summer.

The Pentagon chief stated that the review evaluates the withdrawal process, key decisions taken during the operation, and the events that unfolded as U.S. forces left Afghanistan.

The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 has remained the subject of extensive debate in Washington and among international observers, with analysts continuing to examine its military, political, and humanitarian consequences.
