DID Press: An Irish lawmaker has urged Western governments to impose broader economic sanctions on the Israeli government, arguing that existing measures are too limited to be effective.

Sinéad Gibney of the Social Democrats said current Western sanctions targeting companies linked to Israeli settlement activity are “ineffective and insufficient.” In remarks to Al Jazeera Media Network, she called for expanded economic pressure to halt what she described as ongoing violations in Gaza and the West Bank.
She also demanded a suspension of arms exports to Israel and the freezing of cooperation agreements between the European Union and Israel.
