North Korea Says Its Nuclear Status Is “Irreversible”

DID Press: North Korea has declared that its status as a nuclear power is “irreversible,” rejecting renewed calls from the United States and its regional allies to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

In a statement issued in response to a trilateral meeting involving the United States, Japan, and South Korea in Tokyo, Pyongyang said it has no intention of relinquishing its nuclear arsenal.

North Korean officials described recent demands for denuclearization as “unrealistic” and “illusory,” arguing that continued U.S. military support and advanced weapons sales to Seoul and Tokyo justify the country’s efforts to strengthen its nuclear deterrent.

According to the statement, the collapse of the 2019 Hanoi summit and what Pyongyang called Washington’s “hostile policy” accelerated the development of its nuclear and missile programs.

North Korea has conducted multiple long-range missile tests and unveiled new weapons systems in recent years, reinforcing concerns among regional governments and international security analysts.
