EU, Central Asia Review Afghanistan Situation at Almaty Meeting

DID Press: The 8th meeting of special representatives and envoys from the European Union and Central Asian states has been held in Almaty, focusing on Afghanistan’s evolving political and security situation and its impact on regional stability.

According to a statement from Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, participants discussed current developments in Afghanistan, their implications for regional security, and prospects for expanded international cooperation to support sustainable social and economic development.

Delegations emphasized strengthening regional integration, particularly through the development of transport, logistics, and transit corridors via Afghanistan, which are seen as key routes linking Central Asia, South Asia, and the European Union.

The meeting also highlighted Kazakhstan’s role in promoting regional cooperation, humanitarian assistance to the Afghan population, educational initiatives, and efforts to advance regional economic integration.

The statement further underscored the importance of the United Nations in coordinating international aid to Afghanistan, as well as the significance of the Almaty-based regional center for Sustainable Development Goals.

Participants, including representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the European Union, and the United Nations, reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and sustainable development in Afghanistan and the wider region.
