AFJC Condemns Taliban Raid on Tamadon TV

DID Press: Afghanistan Journalists Center has strongly condemned the raid by Taliban forces on the office of Tamadon TV in Kabul and the suspension of its operations, calling it a continuation of systematic restrictions on press freedom in Afghanistan.

The organization said in a statement that the action reflects ongoing efforts by the Taliban to suppress independent media, silence minority voices, and undermine freedom of expression in the country.

Citing a source from within the broadcaster, the group reported that security personnel affiliated with the Ministry of Justice entered the Tamadon TV premises around noon, halted broadcasts, and reportedly mistreated staff members.

The statement emphasized that the move represents a direct violation of media rights and poses a serious threat to journalistic independence and media security in Afghanistan.

Following the shutdown, Tamadon TV urged the public to closely monitor developments and remain attentive to unfolding events.

Tamadon TV, founded in 2006 by the late Ayatollah Muhammad Asif Mohseni, has been known for both news coverage and religious programming.

According to previous statements by Taliban authorities, the station was also targeted earlier over alleged political affiliations and land disputes, with officials claiming that politically affiliated media are not permitted to operate.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center has called on the Taliban to immediately allow the reopening of the station and ensure that media workers can operate in an environment free from intimidation, discrimination, and restrictions.
