DID Press: The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar has claimed that a confidential security annex to a recent agreement in Lebanon, allegedly drafted under U.S. supervision, includes provisions requiring the disarmament of Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups.

According to the report, the document obliges the Lebanese government to take all necessary measures to dismantle the military capabilities of these groups and end their armed presence within Lebanon. The newspaper further claims that the broader objective of the agreement is to ensure long-term security for Israel.
Following the publication, Hassan Ezzedine, a member of Lebanon’s “Loyalty to Resistance” parliamentary bloc, condemned the reported agreement as “humiliating” and “imposed.”
He argued that Israel has included areas in the arrangement over which it has no legitimate claims, and accused the Lebanese government of accepting externally imposed terms backed by the United States.
Ezzedine added that relying on the agreement would not succeed, insisting it had been imposed on Lebanon through U.S. support for Israel.
