Trump, Putin Hold 85-Minute Call Before NATO Summit

DID Press: US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held an 85-minute phone call ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, discussing the war in Ukraine, Iran, the Middle East, and other international issues, according to officials from Moscow and Kyiv.

The Kremlin said the primary focus of the conversation was the conflict in Ukraine and possible paths toward resolving the war. Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser, said the two leaders also discussed Trump’s participation in the upcoming NATO summit, as well as developments involving Iran and the broader Middle East.

Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his own phone call with Trump as “very good,” saying they discussed the battlefield situation and Ukraine’s military needs.

The parallel diplomatic contacts come as developments on the ground in Ukraine and growing political pressure continue to shape the European and transatlantic security agenda ahead of the NATO meeting.
