Bangladeshi Diplomat Named New UN Envoy for Afghanistan

DID Press: A diplomatic source has confirmed the appointment of Rababa Fatima as the new Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

According to the report, Fatima will succeed Roza Otunbayeva, whose mandate ended in September last year.

She is expected to oversee UNAMA’s operations and lead the United Nations’ engagement on Afghanistan-related issues.
