US Strategic Weapons Stockpiles Strained by Conflict with Iran

DID Press: Continued US military operations against Iran have placed significant pressure on Washington’s strategic weapons stockpiles, raising concerns about the military’s readiness for future contingencies, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region and potential conflicts involving China or North Korea.

According to a report by CNN citing defense analysts, the U.S. military expended thousands of long-range missiles and missile defense interceptors during the initial stages of the conflict.

An assessment by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) reportedly estimates that by the end of a large-scale engagement, at least half of U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, nearly half of its Patriot missile inventory, and around 30 percent of its Tomahawk cruise missiles had been consumed.

Defense analysts warned that sustaining operations at a similar pace could further deplete critical U.S. military inventories, increasing strategic risks and reducing Washington’s ability to respond effectively to future security challenges.
