DID Press: Iraq’s prime minister has pledged that the country will not allow its territory to be used as a launch point for attacks or threats against neighboring states, ordering the formation of a joint security committee to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Zaydi chaired an emergency security meeting on Saturday to review recent regional security developments.
During the meeting, Zaydi stressed that Iraq would not permit its territory to serve as either the source or transit route for attacks or threats targeting neighboring countries. He directed authorities to establish a joint security committee and develop preventive mechanisms aimed at deterring similar incidents in the future.
The prime minister also instructed Iraq’s security institutions to enforce the law, strengthen national security and stability, and fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and maintaining good-neighborly relations.
The statement added that the Iraqi Armed Forces remain on full alert to prevent any hostile actions against what it described as “brotherly and friendly countries,” reiterating that the Iraqi government will not allow its territory to be used as a staging ground or transit corridor for attacks.
