Tight Security Measures Continue in Pakistan’s Balochistan

DID Press: Pakistan’s Balochistan province is facing widespread security restrictions for a second consecutive day. Mobile phone internet services have been completely suspended in Quetta and other areas since midday Thursday, while passenger train services between Quetta and other provinces have also been halted.

Officials have so far provided no new explanation for the measures. However, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langau previously attributed a similar internet shutdown to security threats. Meanwhile, Langau survived an assassination attempt during a ceremony marking Pakistan’s Independence Day.

A Pakistan Railways official also confirmed that the suspension of railway services was ordered solely by security authorities, adding that the halt in train operations will remain in effect until August 15.
