DID Press: Pope Leo XIV, head of the Vatican City State, called for an end to Israeli violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank after reciting the Sunday prayer.

According to Vatican News, Pope Leo XIV called on the international community to take effective measures to advance a two-state solution and create the conditions for lasting peace in the region.
The remarks came as the United Nations said on August 12 that violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank had reached unprecedented levels.
According to UN figures, more than 1,430 attacks against around 260 Palestinian communities have been recorded since the beginning of 2026. In addition, about 3,800 Palestinians have been displaced following the demolition of homes and the expulsion of Palestinians, with nearly half of those displaced being children.
