DID Press: North Korean state media reported that leader Kim Jong Un has reshuffled the country’s defence minister and several senior military officials during a meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Song Gi, director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People’s Army, has been appointed as North Korea’s new defence minister.
At the same time, No Kwang Chol, who had served as defence minister since October 2024, was removed from the party’s central leadership and appointed first vice director of the Munitions Industry Department of the Workers’ Party Central Committee.
The changes were made during the second session of the ninth Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party, chaired by Kim Jong Un.
The leadership reshuffle comes as Pyongyang continues to prioritize military modernization and the expansion of its weapons and defence-industrial capabilities.
