Herat Exports Surge 68% to $90.9 Million

DID Press: Exports from Afghanistan’s western Herat province reached $90.88 million in the first five months of the current year, marking a 68% increase from the same period last year, according to the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment.

More than 110,000 tonnes of locally produced goods were exported during the period, the chamber said.

Major export products included fresh and dried fruit, saffron, medicinal plants, carpets and livestock products.

The Taliban authorities have said their foreign policy is focused on economic interests and that they will seek to create conditions to increase Afghan exports and improve producers’ access to international markets.

Herat is a major commercial and agricultural hub in western Afghanistan, with trade links to neighboring Iran and regional markets. Previous reports have also highlighted the province’s growing exports of agricultural, livestock and medicinal products.
