Afghanistan United Front Claims Two Taliban Intelligence Members Killed in Kandahar, Ghazni

DID Press: The Afghanistan United Front said its fighters carried out two separate targeted operations in Kandahar and Ghazni provinces on Saturday evening, claiming that two members of the Taliban’s intelligence apparatus were killed. The claims have not been independently verified, and Taliban authorities have not commented.

The group said the first attack took place in the Pul-e Nasaji area of Daman district, Kandahar, where it claimed one Taliban intelligence member was targeted and killed.

In a separate statement, the United Front said another operation was conducted in Ghajur Bazaar in Qarabagh district, Ghazni, where it claimed a second Taliban intelligence member was killed. The group alleged that both individuals had been involved in the detention, torture and killing of Afghan civilians. Those allegations could not be independently verified.

The latest claims come amid an increase in attacks claimed by the Afghanistan United Front, led by former Afghan army commander Sami Sadat. The group said earlier this month that it had carried out at least 43 operations in 14 provinces during August, claiming 74 Taliban members were killed and 35 wounded.

The United Front has also claimed several attacks in Kandahar and Helmand in recent weeks. Independent verification of many of those claims has been difficult, while Taliban authorities generally have not responded publicly to individual allegations by armed opposition groups.

The latest reports add to a series of claimed targeted attacks against Taliban personnel, particularly in southern Afghanistan, as the United Front seeks to expand its armed campaign against the Taliban.
