Taliban Detain at Least 20 Women and Girls in Kabul

DID Press: Taliban officials from the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice detained at least 20 women and girls in the Taimani area of Kabul, according to reports.

Several of the detained women said they were arrested despite wearing hijab and were held for up to one night. Some said they were beaten during their detention.

A witness said a pregnant woman was among those detained and was also beaten by Taliban officials before being taken away. Her husband reportedly pleaded with the officials not to harm her.

Images obtained from the incident appear to show Taliban morality officials, accompanied by female personnel, forcing women and girls into a vehicle on Saturday.

One detained woman said she resisted the officials during her arrest and was slapped in the face before confronting them. She also said the officials had ordered her to wear a face mask.

According to reports, the detained women and girls were later released after their families and several local representatives provided guarantees for them.
