Muttaqi and Bahrami Stress Expanding Afghanistan-Iran Cooperation

DID Press: Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister of Afghanistan, met with Mohammad Reza Bahrami, Iran’s special representative at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the eighth Moscow Format meeting and discussed strengthening bilateral relations, regional developments, and expanding economic and political cooperation.

During the meeting, held in Moscow, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing consultations between Kabul and Tehran and developing bilateral cooperation. According to Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Foreign Ministry, Muttaqi thanked Iran for its role in issues related to Afghanistan and emphasized expanding diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries.

Bahrami, referring to Afghanistan’s position in Iran’s neighborhood policy, also stressed the importance of stability and sustainable relations between the two countries. He said Tehran supports processes that contribute to regional stability, improve Afghanistan’s economic situation, and expand trade and transit exchanges between the two countries.

Iran and Afghanistan have increased the level of their political, economic and security interactions in recent years. Trade and transit cooperation, border issues, migration, and regional security developments have been among the key areas of relations between the two sides.
