Taliban Minister Orders Salang Highway Reconstruction Completed Before Winter

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-appointed Minister of Public Works has instructed officials to complete the remaining work on the Salang Highway’s major reconstruction project before the onset of winter.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, major reconstruction work is underway on nine bridges along the highway, including seven in the southern Salang area and two in the northern Salang area. The Doshi Bridge is also included in the project.

Concrete pouring, asphalt paving, and the reconstruction of bridges, culverts and retaining walls are continuing. The contractors have pledged to complete the construction work according to the project schedule.

Completing the project before winter is particularly important because of the Salang region’s harsh weather conditions and the highway’s role as a key transport route connecting several Afghan provinces.
