EU Allocates €12M to Expand Health and Water Services in Afghanistan
DID Press: European Union has allocated €12 million to support healthcare, nutrition and water services for vulnerable communities across six provinces in southern and southwestern Afghanistan.

The programme is expected to directly benefit more than 347,000 people in 28 districts across Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Helmand, Farah and Nimroz provinces. It is scheduled to continue until May 2027.
The initiative will focus on communities facing difficulties accessing essential services, with particular attention to children under five, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with disabilities and families living in remote areas.
The programme is also expected to benefit nearly 1.27 million additional people indirectly. It will provide emergency assistance to communities affected by disease outbreaks, climate-related disasters and displacement.
The initiative will be implemented by three humanitarian organisations: INTERSOS, Solidarités International and Médecins du Monde.
The funding comes as humanitarian needs remain substantial across Afghanistan, where many communities continue to face barriers to healthcare, adequate nutrition and safe drinking water.
