UN Reaffirms Support for Afghan People on Its 81st Anniversary

DID Press: United Nations has praised the resilience of the Afghan people in the face of decades of conflict, poverty, displacement and climate change, while expressing concern over restrictions imposed on women and girls.

In a statement issued on Saturday to mark the 81st anniversary of the organization’s founding, the UN said people in Afghanistan continue to face widespread humanitarian and economic challenges, while those returning to the country are also struggling with numerous difficulties.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Afghanistan through humanitarian assistance, healthcare services, education, human rights protection, economic opportunities and disaster preparedness.

The statement emphasized that Afghanistan’s future belongs to its people and that the United Nations remains committed to supporting Afghans as they confront ongoing humanitarian and economic challenges.

The renewed commitment comes as millions of people across Afghanistan continue to require humanitarian assistance.
