DID Press: Former US President Barack Obama has described Donald Trump’s war with Iran as unnecessary, saying that instead of achieving Washington’s objectives, the conflict has strengthened Iran’s strategic position and imposed heavy costs on the United States.

Obama criticized Trump’s war with Iran, saying the American people neither wanted the conflict nor voted for Trump to launch such a war.
He made the remarks at an election rally in Michigan, adding that the nuclear agreement with Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), had restricted Tehran’s nuclear programme during his presidency without resorting to military action.
According to Obama, the war has failed to achieve Washington’s objectives and has instead exposed US bases and allies to attacks while inflicting casualties on American forces.
The former president also said that some US service members had been killed and hundreds more wounded in the conflict.
He further identified the depletion of US missile stockpiles as another worrying consequence of the war.
Referring to the broader implications of the conflict, Obama stressed that the Trump administration’s military approach had strengthened Iran’s strategic position rather than weakened it.
