France Considers Suspending Social Media Access Amid Unrest
DID Press: The French government has asked the country’s four major telecommunications operators to be prepared to suspend users’ access to social media platforms. The request follows protests on October 17 and 18 and the unrest that ensued, and is aimed at managing potential security situations in the country.

According to French officials, social media platforms were used during public protests to coordinate violent actions, exchange information about potential targets, and share updates on the activities of security forces.
The French government is seeking to use available measures to suppress citizens’ protests against cuts to social services, the education crisis, and rising fuel prices.
