Heavy Rains Flood 70,000 Displacement Tents in Gaza

DID Press: Heavy rainfall and strong winds across the Gaza Strip have flooded thousands of tents housing displaced Palestinians and dozens of shelters, worsening the humanitarian crisis as winter approaches.

Gaza’s Civil Defence said that more than 70,000 displacement tents were flooded following the impact of a low-pressure weather system, causing millions of dollars in damage. Emergency services also received more than 1,500 calls, while thousands of people have once again lost their shelter.

According to the report, the roof of a house in the al-Zeitoun neighbourhood collapsed. Buildings previously damaged in attacks are also at risk of collapsing.

Gaza officials have warned of a humanitarian disaster as winter approaches, describing the protection of displaced people as an urgent priority. They have called for the delivery of 300,000 tents and emergency assistance.

The Israeli regime is responsible for worsening Gaza’s humanitarian crisis through the continued closure of border crossings and restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid.
