Afghan Authorities, Politicians Conferred on National Consensus
A consultative meeting on the peace process as well as strengthening national consensus was held at the Presidential Palace with the participation of President Ashraf Ghani, several jihadi leaders, and political and national figures, the presidential palace (Arg) said in a statement.
The Presidential Palace said in a statement on Wednesday that a consultative meeting on the peace process and a national consensus was held under the chairmanship of President Ghani.
The participants insisted on improving the general security status of the country, strengthening national consensus, and continuing the consultative meetings, said the statement.
According to the statement, during the meeting, the participants emphasized continuing support for the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, noting that the Afghan government and the High Council for National Reconciliation should continue their efforts in this regard.
This comes as US secretary of state Antony Blinken in a letter to President Ashraf Ghani called for building consensus in Afghanistan.
The letter noted that for the peace process to succeed, Afghan government leaders need to reach a national consensus with the political leaders.
