Afghan War Reached Stalemate: British Ambassador
The British ambassador to Kabul Nicholas Kay said the current war in Afghanistan reached a stalemate and parties involved in a war cannot win through military means.
The British ambassador to Kabul Nicholas Kay said the current war in Afghanistan reached a stalemate and parties involved in a war cannot win through military means.
“parties involved in the war should show flexibility to achieve a political agreement through inter-Afghan negotiations; because the recent ceasefire indicated that Taliban and military, including the people, want peace,” Nicholas Kay told in an interview with VOA.
According to him, political agreements needed to find a resolution to the war but military measures necessary to achieve these agreements.
“although Britain demands an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace negotiation, if the Afghan government want Britain cooperation, London is ready,” Nicholas Kay added.
The British ambassador further said the new US strategy on South Asia and Afghanistan and the commitments of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) indicated that the Taliban could not win by war.
These days, the peace talks and negotiation with the Taliban intensified by the government and its supporters. The HPC announced Saturday that a quadrilateral summit on peace will be held in Saudi Arabia in the coming week.
