District Councils Candidacy Terms; From Ambiguity in conditions to Channels for Cheating
The nomination law and the terms in the District Council elections have been issued by the Electoral Commission, have lots of ambiguity about the “Conditions” for potential candidates.
The nomination law and the terms in the District Council elections have been issued by the Electoral Commission, have lots of ambiguity about the “Conditions” for potential candidates.
On the other hand, some of the issues posed in this list can lead to widespread fraud in October elections of 2018.
In the thirty-second and second Article of thirty-three, this revised “law” says that the number of nominees in each district will be determined on the basis of the population of that district, there are not so many legal problems so far, but the main arguments raise when it is said the population of each district will be provided to the election commission based on estimates of population registration department. How can one trust the population of each district accurately estimated and there is no fraud?
The law has also ignored the age, education, political and criminal history and social perspectives of the potential candidates. It has also not specified what electoral criteria the nominees should have in order to participate in the registration process.
Another ambiguity of this law is about publishing the list of voters’ name.
It is stated that the commission will publish the whole or part of the names of voters as required.
When the number of voters is unknown and part of the names will be published in areas designated by the election commission, what guarantees are given that ‘the statistics will not change in the interest of a party, movement, or candidate during counting the ballots.’
These are the ambiguities within the electoral law and terms of National assembly and District Councils elections released by the election commission. A transparent election will be guaranteed in consultation with the political parties and the Association of lawyers.
